You know from a practical point of view, if this is a graphic novel there will be a challenge with the art. Keeping the reader interested will be hard if all he see is a sonagram. Of course, the scenes can be alternated from 1st person to 3rd person point of view.
I also find the second one intriguing. The scene taking place on NS are a chance for some serious surreality.
But think about the various ways that an entity might "see" without visible light. Heat differential is obvious, as is sonar. Animals on earth use both.
What else? Atmospheric pressure differentiation? Bio-electrical detection?

Yes, it will be a challenge. But that's the perfect opportunity for creativity.
